Navaratri Day-2: Mata Brahmacharini Story
According to religious beliefs, Mata Sati was born as the daughter of King Himalaya, when she had self-sacrificed herself in the King Daksha yagya (Holy fire).Later on in another birth also, Mata wanted to have Lord Shiva as her husband, due to which she practiced severe penance (Tapasya). It is belived that Mata did rigorus mortification for about 14 thousand years to get Lord Shiva, where she lived off in a dense forest by only surviving on fruits and flowers and lived on the ground for 14 years.
Even heavy rain, strong sunlight, and dangerous circumstances could not break her penance. She observed Nirjala Vrat with a pure mind. After Mata's strict penance, she came to be known as Tapashcharini i.e. Brahmacharini. Ultimately, well pleased with Mata's penance, Lord Shiva accepted her as his wife.
