Lalita Saptami 2024
Lalita Saptami is observed on the Saptami Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the Bhadrapada month. This year Lalita Saptami will be observed on September 10. It is believed that Lalita Devi appeared on this day. Pujas, rituals and festivals are mainly observed by the Vaishnav community. It is very important for Krishna devotees.Lalita Saptami honors the goddess who is revered for her divine beauty, grace, and power. Observing this vrat (fast) is believed to bring blessings, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment. It is particularly significant for those seeking protection from adversities and wishing for personal and familial well-being.
Lalita Saptami: Importance
- The Lalita Shashthi Vrat is dedicated to Lalita Devi, a gopika goddess of Vrindavan. It is believed that this fast was suggested by Lord Krishna.
- It is believed that married couples who observe this fast are blessed with healthy children. Parents observe this fast for the health, wisdom and longevity of their children.
- Lalita Devi was one of the most important gopis of Vrindavan and was also the beloved friend of Radha Devi. She was her constant companion and would scold her for getting easily involved in Lord Krishna's mischiefs.
- There is a temple dedicated to Lalita Devi in Braj, Mathura.
- In some regions, Shashthi is considered auspicious instead of Saptami - which falls on the previous day or sixth day of the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadra month.
Lalita Saptami 2024: Fasting ritual
- After taking bath in the morning, one should meditate on Lord Ganesha.
- Then Ganesha, Goddess Lalita Devi, Goddess Parvati, Goddess Shashthi, Kartik, Shiva and Shaligram are worshipped on that day.
- Coconut, rice, turmeric, sandalwood, gulal, flowers and milk are offered to the deities as prasad. (Most people offer only flowers). In some areas, a copper vessel is kept in the puja room.
- A red thread or mauli is kept in the puja place. It is worn on the right hand after prayers.
- The fast is from sunrise to sunrise the next day. Only one meal is consumed throughout the day. Working women, women studying and women suffering from health problems should not observe the fast. They should only pray.
- The fast is broken the next day after worship in the morning. The fruit offered to the deities is distributed as prasad.
