Sharadamba Temple, Sringeri, Karnataka
The first of the four monasteries founded by Adi guru Shankaracharya is the Sharda peeth which was founded in the eighth century. This bench is known as the Sharadamba Temple. The temple had a statue of Goddess Saraswati made of sandalwood which was first installed by Adi guru Shankaracharya. The statue was replaced in the 14th century and replaced with a gold statue. Apart from Saraswati Devi, there is also a Shivalinga of Crystal which is said to have been given to Shankaracharya by Lord Shiva himself. On the day of Magh Shukla Saptami i.e. Basant Panchami Saraswati Puja, the mother is worshipped magnificently here. Special puja is also held on Navratri and many other occasions
