Teachers of Gods and Demons
In Vedic Astrology, there are nine planets, two of which are considered teachers. One is the Teacher of Gods, and the other is the Teacher of Demons, representing Jupiter and Venus, respectively.
The story of Venus and Jupiter goes like this:
Venus (Shukra), the son of Brihgu Rishi, received knowledge under Angiras Rishi, who was the father of the planet Jupiter (Biraspati). Both Venus and Jupiter gained knowledge under the same mentor. Over time, Venus noticed that Rishi Angiras seemed to favor Jupiter by teaching him more than Venus, even though Venus was believed to be more knowledgeable, courageous, and determined than Jupiter. Feeling slighted by this partiality, Venus decided to seek teaching from Rishi Gautam. Under his guidance, Venus became even more knowledgeable and sought something unique to stand out among all Rishis.
Venus learned about Sanjivani Vidya, a special knowledge, and dedicated years to mastering it. Eventually, Venus impressed Lord Shiva, who taught him this special knowledge, warning him not to misuse it.
Ultimately, Venus and Jupiter both went to Indralok and asked God Indra to choose the one who was worthy of becoming the teacher of Gods. Indra chose Jupiter for this position, due to his friendship with Jupiter and because Venus was the son of a mother from a demon family he was chosen. Feeling angry and upset by the apparent favoritism, Venus accepted the demons' proposal to become their teacher. With his help, the demons conquered Heaven, and Bali, the king of Demons, became the ruler of Indralok. And that's how Venus became the teacher of Demons, while Jupiter became the teacher of Gods.
