Mystery of Nidhivan:
It is also believed that Lord Shri Krishna still performs Maharas with the Gopis in Nidhivan. The description of Maharas is found in many Vedas and Puranas. There is evidence to support this belief, as the makeup items kept at night for Radha ji's makeup in the Lord's Rangmahal in Nidhivan are found used when the Rangmahal is opened in the morning. The makeup items kept there look as if someone has come and rested on them and the water kept for drinking is found to be less or not at all in the pot. Rangmahal is the place where Lord Krishna used to rest with Radha Rani to recover from his fatigue after the Maharas.
All the trees in Nidhivan are intertwined in such a way that they appear to be holding each other in their arms. It is said that at night these trees take the form of Krishna and the Gopis and perform Maharas. Even today, footprints of Lord Krishna can be seen at many places in Nidhivan.
Lord Shri Krishna comes at night and performs Maharas. The devotees themselves clean this forest. They sweep it as they believe that when the Lord comes here at night and performs Maharas, they should clean the forest so that his feet do not get pricked by thorns or pebbles.
No one has seen this Maharas, and if someone tries to see it, they are not able to tell anyone about it. The one who sees this Maharas goes mad or dies after seeing it. This is the reason why the windows in the houses built around this forest to see the Maharas were closed due to the terrible consequences. Not only humans but even the animals and birds living here do not dare to see the Maharas. Even the monkeys living here go out at night. If by mistake someone stays there at night, they have to pay the price for it by giving their life.
Nidhivan Temple:
Nidhivan is the only temple in the country and abroad where Radha Ji is depicted playing the flute. The story behind this is that Radha ji was jealous of the Lord's flute, so she wanted to steal the Lord's flute and keep him away from it because when the Lord played his flute, all the gop-gopikas and cows would come to that place, which made Radha ji wish to spend some time alone with the Lord. So she stole the Lord's flute to see if the gop-gopikas etc. would come if she also played this flute, but this did not happen. Radha ji herself returned the flute asking forgiveness from the Lord.
Devotees who come here:
Despite the belief that Lord Shri Krishna performed Maharas here in Dwapar, devotees believe that even today, God comes here and performs Maharas. This is the reason why devotees from the country and abroad come here to enjoy the Leelas of God and dance and sing in devotion to God.
