Pradosh Vrat has a special significance in Hinduism. This fast is observed every month on the Trayodashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Devotees must know that the word Pradosh means evening, i.e. the time of meeting of day and night (twilight), hence during this holy hour, special worship of Lord Shiva is done. Additionally, as this fast depends on the positioning of the moon, its date and time keeps on changing twice every month.
Pradosh Vrat September 2024: Auspicious time (Muhurat)
The Pradosh Vrat for this month of September will be observed on September 29 (Sunday), also termed as "Ravi Pradosh Vrat", as it is falling on sunday. Devotees must note that the Trayodashi Tithi starts at 4:47 PM on September 29 and ends at 7:06 PM on Monday, September 30.
It is important to note that the Bhadra period starts on September 30 at 7:06 PM and lasts until 6:14 AM on October 1. According to religious beliefs, auspicious activities should not be performed during the Bhadra period. Therefore, the Pradosh Vrat puja should be completed before the Bhadra period begins.

Pradosh Vrat September: Significance
- Worshipping Lord Shiva during the evening hours, is known as the Pradosh period, is said to be highly auspicious.
- This Pradosh period starts from sunset and stretchs up till 8 PM.
- During these hours, devotees perform rituals and observe fasting to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
- Observing the Pradosh Vrat is also believed to provide physical and mental health benefits, alongside spiritual growth.

Pradosh Vrat: Puja Method
- Devotees need to wake up early in the morning, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.
- Setup a place and install a statue or picture of Lord Shiva in a clean area.
- Perform holy abhisheka on the Shiva Linga using water, milk, yogurt, honey, and ghee.
- Offer bel leaves to the Shiva Ling as it is considered very auspicious.
- Light incense and oil lamps (diyas) in front of the Shiva Ling while reciting the mantra "Om Namah Shivaya."
