The Pradosh fast is observed on both Trayodashi dates of the lunar month, one of which falls in Shukla Paksha and the other in Krishna Paksha. Pradosh fast is observed on the day when Trayodashi date prevails in Pradosh period i.e., on August 31. This date is considered very good for getting the blessings of Mahadev. Pradosh Vrat 2024: Auspisious time
The Krishna Paksha Trayodashi Tithi of the month of Sawan begins on August 31, 2024, at 2:25 AM and concludes on September 1 at 3:40 AM. Pradosh Vrat is observed in the evening, and the first Pradosh Vrat of the month of Bhadrapada will be on Saturday, August 31. Since it falls on a Saturday, it is known as Shani Pradosh Vrat.

Pradosh Vrat 2024: Rules
- Devotees should focus their thoughts on Lord Shiva and refrain from harboring any negative thoughts on the day of Pradosh Vrat.
- A fast is observed throughout the day, with a waterless (nirjala) fast being considered even more auspicious.
- In the evening, after performing the worship of Lord Shiva, the fast should be broken with a fruit-based meal.
- Salt should not be consumed during Pradosh Vrat.
- Wearing white clothing on this day is considered auspicious.
- Maintain cleanliness and observe complete celibacy on this day.
- On Chaturdashi Tithi, after offering prayers to Lord Shiva, one should partake in food, thereby concluding the fast.
- Devotees should avoid consuming tamasic foods such as onions, garlic, meat, lentils, urad dal, tobacco, and alcohol.
- Cutting nails, hair, or shaving is also prohibited on this day.
