Pitru Paksha: Purnima Shradh  

The sixteen days of Pitru Paksha in Ashwin month are considered very important to pay tribute to our ancestors. The Shradh performed during Pitru Paksha clears the debt of the ancestors and the soul of the ancestors attains salvation.

Tarpan, Pind daan are performed during this period for the peace of the soul of the departed ancestors. Shradh should be performed on the death date of the ancestors. If the death date of all these relatives is not known, then Shradh can be performed on Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Pitru Paksha 2024

Every year, Pitru Paksha runs from the full moon date of Bhadrapada month to the Amavasya date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This year, Pitru Paksha is starting from 17 September 2024, which will end on 2 October 2024. This period is dedicated to the worship of ancestors. During this, Pinddaan is done for the peace of the soul of the ancestors. This pleases the ancestors. It is believed that during the period of Pitru Paksha, the Shradh Karma of the ancestors is performed. By doing this, their blessings remain on the descendants.

According to the scriptures, ancestors come to earth during the days of Shraadh. In such a situation, Shraadh rituals should be performed for their soul peace. This gives them liberation. According to the Panchang, this year the full moon date of Bhadrapad month will start on September 17 at 11:44 am, which is ending on September 18 at 8:04 am. During this time Dhriti Yoga and Shatabhisha Natra are being formed. In such a situation, let us know how Shraadh rituals should be performed to please the ancestors. 

 

Pitru Paksha: Shraddha Vidhi

• Wake Up Before Sunrise: Begin your day early to perform the Shraddha ritual with proper timing.

• Take a Bath: Cleanse yourself thoroughly to maintain purity during the ritual.

• Wear Clean Clothes: Dress in clean, fresh clothes to show respect and maintain sanctity.

• Prepare Satvik Food: Cook food with cleanliness and purity in mind, following the principles of Satvik (pure) food.

• Serve Food on a Clean Plate: Place the prepared food on a clean plate and set it in front of the picture of your ancestors.

• Offer Incense: Light and offer incense to your ancestors as a mark of respect.

• Wish Ancestors Well: With folded hands, pray for their happiness and prosperity.

• Offer Food: Present the food to the ancestors as an offering.

• Pray for Acceptance: Pray that your ancestors accept the food and bless you and your family.

• Seek Blessings: Gather your family and seek blessings from your ancestors.

• Feed Brahmins: Perform the ritual of feeding Brahmins (priests) as part of the tradition.

• Make Donations: Offer donations according to your faith and ability.

• Share the Meal: Eat the meal with your family members and seek forgiveness for any mistakes.

• Kutup Muhurat- 11:51 AM to 12:40 PM (Duration: 49 minutes)

• Rohina Muhurat- 12:40 PM to 01:29 PM (Duration: 49 minutes)

• Aparahna Kaal- 01:29 PM to 03:56 PM (Duration: 2 hours 27 minutes)
