Masik Durga Ashtami 2021: Significance, Rituals, Story, & Auspicious Timings

Monthly Durgashtami has a special significance in Hinduism. The Ashtami that falls in Navratri is called Mahashtami. Apart from this, monthly Durgashtami fast is kept on the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of every month. According to the Hindu calendar, the Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month is on 18th June. On this day, apart from worshiping Goddess Durga according to the law, devotees also keep a fast to please her. It is believed that Maa Durga showers her blessings on those who worship with a sincere heart.

Significance of Monthly Durgashtami-
Maa Jagdamba's blessings are obtained by fasting and worshiping on the day of Masik Durgashtami. It is believed that Mother Adishakti removes the sufferings of her devotees. By observing Durgashtami fasting, happiness, prosperity and wealth come in the house.

Shubh Muhurta of Monthly Durgashtami-
Monthly Durgashtami fast will be observed on 18 June 2021. The Ashtami date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month will start at 09:59 pm on Thursday, June 17, which will continue till 08.39 pm on Friday, June 18.

How to perform rituals of Monthly Durgashtami-

• -By fasting and worshiping on Durgashtami with complete rituals, one gets the desired results.
• -On the day of Durgashtami, wake up in the morning and take a hot bath, then purify it by pouring Ganges water at the place of worship.
• -Laying a red cloth on a wooden plate, place the idol of Maa Durga on it.
• -Offer Akshat, vermilion and red flowers to the mother, offer fruits and sweets as prasad.
• -Recite Durga Chalisa by lighting incense and lamp and then do the aarti of the mother.
• - Pray to the Goddess with folded hands, Durga Maa will fulfill all your wishes.

Story of Monthly Durgashtami-
According to the scriptures, centuries ago the Asuras became very powerful on earth and they started ascending to heaven. He killed many gods and created havoc in heaven. The most powerful demon among them was Mahishasura. Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma created Goddess Durga in the form of Shakti. Each deity provided a special weapon to Goddess Durga. After this, Adishakti Durga came to earth and killed the demons. Maa Durga fought with Mahishasura's army and eventually killed him. From that day the festival of Durga Ashtami started.
