According to ancient beliefs, during the time of Samundra manthan, when the Gods and Demons were fighting for the Amrit ( the nectar of immortality), the few drops of Amrit fell at four places, mentioned above. Every year, devotees visit here and take a holy bath in the Ganges River to get rid of their sins.
Scientifically, during the month of Magh, the water of the Ganga River is at its peak in terms of special minerals and medicinal properties. Taking a bath in the Ganga River boosts immunity and also cures skin-related diseases.

Makar Sankranti (14 January 2026): On Makar Sankranti, Suryadev enters the Capricorn zodiac sign, which means the sun moves towards the north direction, and this day marks the beginning of the Magh Mela.
Mauni Amavasya (18 January 2026): Amavasya falls on the last day of the Krishna Paksha every month. Similarly, the first Amavasya of the year, which falls in the month of Magh, is called Mauni Amavasya. On this auspicious day, practising meditation and performing spiritual practices is considered highly auspicious. Performing ancestral rites and acts of charity is considered extremely fruitful.
Vasant Panchami (23 January 2026): On the day of Vasant Panchami, Goddess Saraswati is worshipped.
Magh Purnima (1st February): Magh Purnima marks the completion of Kalpavas. Kalpavas is a month-long period during which devotees perform Ganga Snan three times a day and eat only sattvic food. Those who observe Kalpavas sleep on the ground, chant mantras on the banks of the Ganga River, and perform Kalpavas are believed to attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
