Married women observe the scared fast of Karwa Chauth for the long and healthy life of their husbands. Eventhough, mostly married women keep this fast, yet in some cultures this fast is also kept before marriage. 

So for the ladies who are observing this fast for the first time may know the fasting ritual and method of worship (Karwa chauth puja vidhi), along with the materials needed (Karwa chauth puja samagri) in detail here. 
 

Karwa Chauth: Puja Material (Karwa chauth puja samagri)

•  Sixteen makeup items, rice, roli, sandalwood, Akshat, mehndi, bracelet, bindi etc. are filled in it.
• A plate, water, milk, curd, honey, ghee etc. for offering arghya to the moon.
• Ghee lamp for puja.
• Agarbatti or incense.
• Chowki for puja.
• Fill the pot with water and place a coconut on it.
• To apply vermilion mark.
• Tilak of sandalwood or kumkum.
• Flowers to decorate the temple.
• Sweets as Prasad.

 

Karwa Chauth: Puja Method (Karwa Chauth Puja Vidhi)

• Get up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes.
• Take a vow to fast and decide to observe fast for the entire day.
• Clean the place of worship and install the Karva on the stand.
• Worship Lord Ganesha, Lord Parvati and Lord Shiva.
• Worship Karva Mata and offer her flowers, rice, roli etc.
• Listen to the story of Karva Chauth.
• First look at the moon after it rises in the evening.
• Then offer arghya to the moon. 
• Give Arghya and offer Prasad to Karva Mata.
• Take blessings from your husband and see his face in the moonlight.
• After breaking the fast, have a meal with the family.
