Importance of Dev Deepawali
Dev Deepawali is celebrated on Kartik Purnima because it is called the Diwali of the Gods. It is believed that on Kartik Purnima, Lord Shiva killed a demon named Tripurasura. This demon had spread terror in all three worlds, due to which the Gods got upset and took refuge in Lord Shiva. Hearing their prayers, Lord Shiva killed Tripurasura. After the destruction of Tripurasura, all the Gods celebrated Diwali by lighting lamps in heaven. Thus, the tradition of celebrating Kartik Purnima as Dev Deepawali started.
