In the Sanatan Dharm, every festival is dedicated to different deities and celebrated uniquely. However, Chhath is the only festival where both the rising and setting Sun are worshipped. The festival is dedicated to the father of the universe, the Sun and the protector of children, Chhathi Maiya.
On this day, devotees observe a strict fast to seek the blessings for family well-being, offspring and peace at home. It is considered the most difficult fast where devotees follow strict rules for worshipping to receive blessings from Suryadev and Chhathi Maiya.
Chhath Puja Day-3
Today marks the third day of Chhath, and on this day, devotees offer the first arghya to the setting Sun. This day is observed with a nirjala fast. Devotees clean their houses and prepare a daura ( bamboo basket) with sugarcane, thekua, sugarcane, thekua rice and other offerings.
Rivers, ghats or ponds are fully decorated on this day, where all the devotees gather and offer Sandhya arghya to the setting sun by standing deep in the water. They offer prayers to the Suryadev and Chathi Maiya for the well-being of the family and children and peace at home.
