Chhath Puja 2025 Day 2: Kharna, Know the Facts About the Second Day of Chhath Puja| Check HereChhath Puja 2025
Many festivals are celebrated every year in a unique way, which are dedicated to different deities. Similarly, Chhath Puja holds a unique place, especially in India’s eastern and northern regions. Most of the people worship the rising Sun, but Chhath is the only festival where people worship both the setting and rising sun.
The festival is dedicated to Suryadev, who is considered the father of the universe, and Goddess Chhathi Maiya, who is the protector of children. On this day, devotees observe a fast to seek blessings for offspring, family well-being, and peace at home.
Rules and Restrictions During Chhath Puja
Chhath Puja is considered the most difficult fast of all Hindu festivals, as devotees have to follow strict rules during this fast. Worship is never performed after sunset or before sunrise, and black coloured clothes and items are also avoided, as black is linked with Rahu and Saturn, and it is considered inauspicious. Devotees also avoid consuming garlic, onions or any tamsic food.
Sugarcane juice, fruits, and thekua are offered to the goddess. Thekua, made from jaggery, is considered the most sacred prasad of Chhath Puja. Jaggery is used because it represents the Sun’s energy.
Chhath Puja Day-2 (Kharna)
The festival began on 25th October 2025 with Nahay Khay and ends on 28th October with Morning Arghya. Today marks the second day of the four-day-long festival, which is known as Kharna. On this day, devotees observe a day-long fast and break it in the evening after offering jaggery kheer. Silence is maintained while the one who is observing fast is consuming the offering as prasaad.
