Why is gold bought on Akshaya Tritiya?
According to Hindu belief, Tritiya of Shukla paksha of Vaishakh month is considered very auspicious and virtuous because Akshay Kumar, the son of Brahma ji was born on this date. In his name, this date is called Akshaya Tritiya. Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu was also born on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. The beginning of Tretayuga is considered from the day of Akshaya Tritiya.
Looking at all these auspicious coincidences, this auspicious date has been considered to bring happiness and good luck. According to Hindu belief, whatever work is done on this auspicious date, gets four times the fruit. It is also believed that the worship and auspicious work done on this day never gets destroyed. This is the reason that on this day people buy gold and ornaments made of gold, utensils etc. so that the stock of money and gold in them increases by double day and night.
